Twitter based hashtags continue to confound many new social media users. In short, a hashtag is a bookmark for tracking various twitter posts related to various conversations, events, or question and answer sessions. Hashtags are created by Twitter users and adapted by other Twitter users if the choose. Hashtags are preceeded by the # symbol followed by a word. For example, #VDay hashtag was entered into tweets based around Valentine’s Day conversations and events. During the Haiti Earthquake reponse, the #Haiti hashtag was created to allow twitter users to view conversations and events around this breaking news story. Hashtags offer wonderful competitive intelligence opportunities. Twitter paticipants can track how far and wide their message is being received. Also, companies running on-line events can review messages containing Twitter hashtags to determine how many tweets were attending and interacting at their on-line event. For a better understanding of hashtags and how to search for hashtaged conversations check out the Hashtag Dictionary . Also, another great hashtag look up tool is What the hashtag?! What the hashtag?! offers a great feature allowing online Twitter users to follow this application (@wht?!) and find a hashtag by direct messaging (DM) their robot.
Recently, on my website I was left comments by foreign social media participants. The increasing presence of the social media is starting to decrease the traditional borders of communication between all people around the world. Now we can talk to people in real-time in Europe, Asia ,and Africa. Please remember to place a translation program into your blog or website! Google translation is a fine tool. If left a message you cannot decipher, try this free application before trying to pay for a translation.
And the tax season is upon us again! A friendly reminder the IRS is using the social media to watch for tax evaders!
