In the past couple of months I have been reading more and more on-line articles based around the success of several Fortune 500 companies using various social media strategies. In a most recent article,Avaya Inc. attributed their recent social media success to listening to on-line conversations.
As more businesses spend money on social media marketing and create new SM positions, businesses need to start creating position titles that not only reflect the activites of the position, but what metrics will need to be meet by an individual in this position.
Today, I propose the title, Social Marketing Intelligence and Interaction Officer (SMIO).
A Social Marketing Intelligence and Interaction Officer will be responsible for the following activities and metrics:(Below assumes that SMIO will be based in the Public Relations department)
Duties:
-Determine what social media monitoring solutions or social marketing tools will be bought, set-up, and implemented by the organization and the IT department.
-Determine what social, business, informational, or news networking sites need to be monitored.
-Determine what type of niche communities and their groups and forums need to be monitored.
-Determine what other on-line content needs to be monitored.
-Determine what type of blogs need to be monitored.
-With Sales, Customer Service, Legal, IT, and Administrative departments, creates on-line interaction strategies focusing on creating positive on-line social interactions: customer service, customer engagement, brand management-beta and awareness, community building, business continuity, etc.
-Determine if corporate community building activities need to be implemented and how maintained.
-Act as moderator on corporate community building platform. Create and enforce corporate community rules.
-Creation of corporate blog. Determine subject matter to be placed on blogs. Determine what personnel can blog under the company’s name.
-Collaborating with Sales and Customer Service departments, target present and potential leads using on-line generated information, and data.
-Exercise great judgement in monitoring, updating or altering relationship building activites to meet on-line social tones.
-With Sales, Customer Service, and Administration, create a social media metric reporting system. Monthly reports and yearly reports wil be filed.
-Create, implement, and educate company officers and employees on social media crisis management procedures. Create a checklist.
-Determine and suggest other social media based technologies (website, wikis, SEO, podcasting, etc.) to enhance on-line web presence for the organization. Activity to be conducted with the IT department.
-With Sales,Customer Service, and IT Department, determine if present computer and data storage systems meet the needs of a social media program and operations.
-Responsible for initial set-up of social marketing based meetings.
-Responsible for set-up of future social marketing meetings, as needed.
-Responsible for creating relationships between internal departments and getting input and information for social media activities.
-Responsible for social media training gudelines and updates; and developing social media releases.
-Responsible for hiring,training, and management of all social media personnel.
-Other duties as assigned due to social media marketing technology development and expansion.
